CELEBRATES ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY
PAINTSVILLE, KY (February 16, 2010) – Today, Citizens National Bank kicks off the week-long celebration of its 100th Anniversary. All week, Citizens will be holding festivities at its branches throughout Eastern Kentucky as a thank you to the community for making it the trusted community bank it is today.
“Reaching our 100th Anniversary is a great achievement,” says Dennis T. Dorton, Citizens National Bank President and CEO, “It’s an honor to be able to serve such great communities and help them realize their financial goals for so many generations.”
Dennis T. Dorton has always had strong ties with the community. He’s the third generation of Dortons to lead Citizens National Bank, starting with his grandfather, D.H. Dorton Sr., who began as a cashier in 1922 and worked his way up to become President of the bank.
One hundred years ago today, Citizens National Bank (then Paintsville Bank and Trust Company) opened for business in a single frame building on Main Street in Paintsville, Kentucky.
Citizens National Bank’s focus on community banking helped it grow quickly, bringing about the construction of a new building on Main Street in 1917, just 50 feet from the site of the original building.
Since then, Citizens has grown from that first single frame location to a network of 16 branches across Eastern Kentucky to become the second largest independently-owned and operated community bank in the Big Sandy Region.
“We also can’t forget the dedication and contributions of the Board of Directors and all of our incredible employees,” Dorton notes, “They’re members of the community, too. None of Citizens National Bank's accomplishments would have been possible without them.”
